Wagner "Buz" Lee Baskett, Jr. age 70 of Cloverport, KY returned peacefully home to Heaven on May 24, 2021. Buz, as he was known, was born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX to parents Wagner and Julia "Judy" Baskett.
Buz served his country as an airborne paratrooper military policeman in the United States Army. He was a 20 year Vietnam veteran. He met his wife Mary Ann Romesberg Baskett in Kaiserslautern, FRG. They were married 46 years in April 2021. Mary Ann is also a U.S. Army veteran.
The Baskett's returned to the states to Fort Bragg, NC where Buz, upon retirement went to the Police Academy and was hired as a patrolman in Spring Lake, NC where he also became a volunteer fireman EMT. He worked his way up to Assistant Police Chief and Fire Chief with a double degree in Criminal Justice and Organizational Management.
He came to Hawesville, KY as Police Chief in December 2010. In 2014 he went to Cloverport, KY where he served as Police Chief. Rather than retiring, he served the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Department as Deputy and Evidence Specialist. He also served with the Hardinsburg Volunteer Fire Department Station 1.
Wagner was a member of New Clover Creek Baptist Church where he served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher and Executive Board Member.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his son Michael Wagner Baskett of Cloverport, KY
his daughter Jeanne Marie Blake (Matthew) of Tonganoxie, KS who served 22 years with the U. S. Coast Guard at the Federal Building in Topeka, KS.
2 grandchildren: Jordan David Blake (16) and Rylie Corrine Blake (13) of Tonganoxie, KS
his sister Jarlath Hoffman of Corpus Christi, TX and many, many nieces and nephews in Corpus Christi
In keeping with his wishes, cremation was chosen under the direction of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home with a memorial service to be held at New Clover Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 6 PM. Visitation will be held at the church from 4-7 PM.
