Shirley Brown Hill, age 74 of Sellersburg, IN died Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. She was born in Axtel, KY on July 18, 1946, the daughter of the late Morton Brown and Kathleen Glasscock Likens. Shirley was a devout Christian lady who attended Full Gospel Tabernacle in Sellersburg, IN. She was the owner and president of Kentucky Specialized Haulers. As a young adult woman who strived to be independent, but found many obstacles in her way, Shirley became an activist for civil and women's rights - only wanting for all to be treated fairly and equally.
She was a Kentucky Colonel, enjoyed quilting, playing Bingo and shopping yard sales. Shirley was involved with a team that transported clothing to Native Americans on reservations in the Dakota's and Minnesota.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Homer Junior Hill, stepson Homer Stinson (veteran United States Army), brother - Samuel "Shorty) Brown and sister Judy Sego.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Heather Napper (Frederick - retired United States Army) of International Falls, MN
stepsons - John Calhoun (Carol) of Staten Island, NY and Homer Hill (Lisa) of Indianapolis, IN
3 grandchildren: April Tbinnereim (Tyson), Justin Napper (Amanda) and Anna Hunter (Matthew)
several grandchildren and step grandchildren
brothers - Donnie Brown (Freda) and James "Toehead" Brown (veteran United States Marine Corp) of Hardinsburg, KY
sisters - Linda Wheatley of Louisville, KY and Vicki West of Hardinsburg, KY
Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11 AM with burial in the McDaniels Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday after 9:30 AM.
