Larry Eugene Lucas

Larry Eugene Lucas, age 72 of Madrid, KY died August 17, 2019 at University of Louisville Hospital. He was born in Madrid, KY on January 29, 1947, the son of the late Henry Raymond and Pansy Opal Miller Lucas. Larry served his country during the Vietnam War as a Transportation Specialist in the 597th Transportation Company. Upon his return stateside, he started a career in retail grocery at Houchens in Hardinsburg where he worked 23 years. Larry was the owner and operator of Hudson Grocery and Hardware for 16 years until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Larry loved gardening, lawn work, fishing, playing horseshoes, family get togethers and watching all sports - especially tennis.

Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susie Coomes Lucas of Madrid, KY
sons - Kevin Lucas (Nancy) of Axtel, KY and Brandon Lucas (Tabitha) of Owensboro, KY
daughter - Angela Lucas of Westview, KY
6 grandchildren - Kennedy Lucas, Camden Lucas, Asher Lucas, Selma Lucas, Sydney Bruner and Natalie Bruner.
1 brother - Junior Lucas of New Haven, KY

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinburg, KY on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 9:30 AM with Mass to follow at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Axtel, KY at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, 4-8 PM and Thursday, 8- 9:30 AM.
