James Edward Simmons, age 87 of Hardinsburg, KY died December 18, 2020 at Breckinridge Memorial Nursing Facility. He was born in Hardinsburg, KY on November 21, 1933, the son of the late Herman and Pauline Roberts Simmons. James was an elevator technician, having worked with Armor Elevator and A & B Elevator. He later retired from the University of Louisville. James was a devout Christian who attended New Bethel Baptist Church as a child, Valley Station Baptist Church and Apollo Heights as an adult. He loved to sing, especially in his church choirs. His family was his world and each day was devoted to time with them. He enjoyed playing golf and would occasionally have a family outing on the course.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives Naomi Eskridge Simmons and Frances Sturgeon Simmons, siblings Jean Belcher, Mary McFelia, Shirley Wimberly and Ruth Tucker.
He is survived by his wife Aliene Martin Simmons

Great grandchildren: Lindsey, Brennan and Mason Thomas, Chloe Simmons and Naomi Redman, Kate Wood
many nieces and nephews
Private services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home with burial in the New Bethel Cemetery.
