James Martin Bruner, age 83 of Custer, KY died Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was born in a log cabin in Custer, KY on May 2, 1937, the son of the late James Issaac Bruner and Lillian Evelyn Martin Bruner. James retired from Phillip Morris in 1990 at the age of 52 after 34 years of service as a machinist. He enjoyed farming, playing cards and riding in his golf cart. He loved driving and seeing the sights, dining out and visiting new places. When his health no longer allowed him to drive, he let Marylyn take the wheel, however he still told her how. Oh what fun they had! He was a former board member of The Cecilian Bank Hometowner's Club.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. His smile, his laughter and his kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother J C Bruner.
James is survived by Marylyn, his wife of almost 61 years.

1 daughter - Alyssa Susan Morales (Carlos) of Custer, KY
Foster son - Mark Allen (Wanda) of Cecilia, KY
11 grandchildren: Laura Crow (John), their son Thomas and daughter Geraldine who is due August 3, 2020, Katie Door (Jason), their daughter Maddie, Bridgett and Joshua Bruner, Sara Beth Pitts (Timmy), their children Mason and Karson, Scotty Bruner (Morgan), their son Keith and baby due in December, Justin Bruner (Shavonna), their daughters Mia and Ava and baby due in December, Lilly, Trini and Miguel Morales, Micah Allen.
Private funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home with burial in the Cook Cemetery near Custer, KY. Walk through visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church.
The number of those attending visitation shall be within the current health and safety directives. Please do not bring food or drinks to the funeral home as they are not allowed at this time. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, please keep your personal condolences brief at the funeral home.
