Helen Jeannette (Bates) O'Connell

Helen Jeannette O'Connell, age 91 of Hardinsburg, KY passed away September 22, 2022 at Breckinridge Memorial Nursing Facility. She was born in Breckinridge County on September 15, 1931, daughter of the late Levi and Thelma Whitworth Bates. Mrs. O'Connell was a member of New Clover Creek Baptist Church and Hardinsburg Baptist Church. Aunt Helen, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, enjoyed cooking and entertaining at family gatherings. She was such a kind lady who had the sweetest voice and smile. Many years ago, she and her late husband were very active with the Marydale Little League organization when their sons were small. Due to declining health, she was not as active in her community as in years past, but her presence was always felt. She enjoyed the companionship of her kitty, Lucy in the last couple of years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Preston "Penny" O'Connell and her brothers C. B., Willard and Joe Bates.

Mrs. O'Connell is survived by 3 sons - Rick (Jenny) O'Connell, Ron (Barbara - deceased) O'Connell and Ken (Mary Kay) O'Connell.

6 grandchildren - Shannon Egan, Dan (Jennifer) O'Connell, Kelly O'Connell, Sara (Chris) Gee, Patrick (Kristi) O'Connell and Kathleen (Rodney) Cyrus.

8 great grandchildren - Alex (Brooke) Carr, Ben (Lindsey) Carr, Erin Egan, Eileen Egan, Madeline O'Connell, Caleb O'Connell, Charlie Carr and Brady Gee.

She was a loving Aunt and friend to many.

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 3 PM with burial in the Ivy Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM on Sunday.
