Garfield Dean

Garfield Dean, age 83 of Hardinsburg, KY died Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born in Breckinridge County on September 5, 1936, the son of the late Ernest Dean, Sr. and Hattie Poole Dean. Garfield was a retired Civil Service employee, a member of First Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing, something he did very often until his health no longer allowed. Garfield was a very good man, a pillar in our community and someone that the younger generation admired and looked to for advice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Phyllis,  sisters Maggie Poole and Nora Peyton,  brothers Robert Poole, Will Dean, Ernest Dean, Jr., Herman Dean, Sherman Dean, Jamie Dean and Paul Dean.

Garfield is survived by 4 children: Garland Dean, Karen Dean, Tracy Criss and Judy Welch of Hardinsburg, KY

5 grandchildren: Kelly Gannaway, Dustin Dean, Teressa Pyles, Devin Dean and Rachel Dean

3 great grandchildren: Quenten Rhinehart, Madison Dean and Kyleigh Dean

1 brother: Morris Poole of Louisville, KY

1 sister: Beatrice Woods of Harned, KY

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home 308 South Hardin Street Hardinsburg, KY 40143 on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be in the Hardinsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, 4:30 - 8 PM and Saturday after 8 AM.
