Elma June (Powers) Mingus

Elma June Mingus, 68, of Cloverport, passed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on March 13, 2023 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Hancock County native was born February 2, 1955, to the late J.W. and Nancy Storm Powers. June graduated from Hancock County High School, Class of 1973. She then went to work for the Hancock County School System and stayed there over 40 years until her retirement in January, 2020. June was an avid gardener and loved to spend time weeding and decorating her flower beds. She was also an amazing cook who enjoyed cooking large meals for the ones she loved most. We all know the world will never be the same without June's biscuits and gravy breakfast. She poured herself into others, as a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. June fought her battle with pancreatic cancer the same way she lived her entire life - with unwavering faith, strength and grace. Although she no longer suffers or knows any pain, there is no doubt she will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever remembered by her strength and dedication to those she cared about.

In addition to her parents, June was also preceded in death by son in law Brad Critchelow, and her siblings, Donald Powers and Bobby Powers, her mother in law, Myrtle Mingus and brother in law Joe Mingus.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of over 47 years, James Douglas Mingus; daughter Melanie Mingus Critchelow; granddaughter Macy Elizabeth Critchelow; her siblings Wayne (Charlene) Powers; Brenda (Eddy) Hinton; Sharon (W.P.) Dennis; Dena Powers; father in law Bill Mingus and in laws Nancy (Bobby) Priest, Bill (Judy) Mingus, Donna Smith and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11 AM. Burial will be at Pisgah Baptist Church where June attended church for over 30 years. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 4 - 8 PM and Saturday after 8 AM.
