Effie Lea (Dowell) Bruce

Effie Lea Bruce, 81 of Louisville, KY went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 8, 2021. She was born in Harned, KY on December 19, 1939, the daughter of the late Sammie and Helen Sosh Dowell. Lea greatly loved her family and the Lord, most recently worshipping at the Helck Avenue House of Prayer before her declining health prevented her from in-person worship. After raising her three children, Lea was also a fixture in the lives of her grandchildren. She would often spend weekends with them and would always surprise them with a small treat or token of affection. Lea shared her love of family by devoting many years of life to childcare in her home, with each child becoming one of her "kids", affectionately being referred to as Mammaw Lea. She loved and cared for all of her family deeply, qualities that will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, Lea was preceded in death by Bob Bruce, her husband of over 55 years; her son Billy Bruce and siblings Sammie Dowell, Joe Dowell, Rugene Brooks and Jimmy Dowell.

Lea is survived by her son Bobby (Kathy) Bruce and her daughter Pam (Rick) Jones. One of her final statements prior to her death was that she loved all of her grandchildren. She is survived by 6 grandchildren: Amanda, Jonelle, Cortney, Lewis, Shannon and Robert; 9 great grandchildren: Adrianna, Sklyer, Jackson, Heidi, Eli, Samuel, Sylvia, Aaron and Avery.

Her siblings: Alice, Carolyn, Patricia and David and numerous additional family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 1 PM with burial in the Horsley Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, 4-8 PM. All times are central time.
