Dorothy B (Norton) Payne

Dorothy B. Norton Payne, age 91 of Garfield, KY passed away August 3, 2022 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was born in Breckinridge County on November 15, 1930, daughter of the late Glen and Edna Hobbs Norton. Dorothy was a member of Garfield Baptist Church. She led a very active and full life. She worked many different jobs, raised her four children and served as a foster parent to over 30 children who she loved and nurtured. She enjoyed sewing and playing the piano in her spare time. While in her early 70's, she attended night classes to earn her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Payne, granddaughter Anastazia Payne and sister Wanda Armes.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Barbara Dowell and her husband Barry of Harned, KY; Rogie Payne and his wife Sharon of Leitchfield, KY; Junie Payne and his wife Chandra of Harned, KY and Becky Cain of Harned, KY

1 sister - Margie Moore of Harned, KY

10 grandchildren - Neal and Joseph Riley Dowell; Tonya Lamar; Lori Barnett; Seth, Cameron, Gabriylle and Christian Payne, Allie Butler and Braxton Cain

18 great grandchildren - Dexter, Blake and Trevor Glasscock; Nicholas, Chelsy, Hannah, Emma and Riley Beth Dowell; Emma, Grace Ann and Noah Barnett; Lillie,Trigg, Jovie Bell, Jensen and Whitlee Payne, Callum Cain and Wrenlee Rose Nevitt

1 great great grandchild - Keegan Rae Glasscock and a another due in September.

Several foster children including Tonya Combs and Spring Kessler and well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral services will be held at Garfield Cemetery on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 1:30 PM. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 AM - 1 PM. Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Garfield Baptist Church or Garfield Cemetery.

Due to the increase in COVID cases, the family is requesting that you wear masks when coming for visitation. Services are subject to change.
