Donald Eugene Bland, age 86 of Hardinsburg, KY passed away August 10, 2023 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Shively, KY on September 26, 1936, son of the late Samuel and Beatrice Mattingly Bland. He served in the Army Reserves and during this time the Berlin Crisis occurred. Donnie was a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church and formerly served on the parish council and finance committee. As a young man, he worked at Dauby's Chevrolet in Hawesville, KY as an accountant. In 1957 he became Breckinridge County Deputy Court Clerk until 1961. He began his banking career with Breckinridge Bank in Cloverport, KY and this spanned for many years until his retirement from Hancock Bank and Trust Company. Donnie was a member of the Breckinridge County Lions Club. He enjoyed bowling, horse racing, farming and travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Dorita Curl, brother Bill Bland, nephew Eddie Ray Bland, brother-in-law Phillip Keenan and mother and father-in-law William Earl and Dorothy Horrell.
Donnie is survived by his wife Alice Bland of Hardinsburg, KY
4 children: Billy (Donna) Bland and Jim (Dana) Bland of Hardinsburg, KY; Todd Bland and Donna Broaddus of Indianapolis, IN
8 grandchildren: Brant (Kate), Brooke Bland, Sam Bland, Will Bland, Nick (Katie) Broaddus, Levi Broaddus, Makenzie Broaddus, Timmy Curl
6 great grandchildren: Owen, Maddison, Finleigh, Myla Jo, Kylin and Alayjia
1 sister: Toby Keenan of Hardinsburg, KY
1 nephew and 2 nieces: Scott Bland, Pam Pollock and Bobbie Gail Clark and their families
Funeral services will be held at St. Romuald Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11 AM with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Tuesday, 3:30 - 8 PM and Wednesday after 8 AM. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM on Tuesday. All times are central.
