Diane Marie (Reading) Deer

Diane Marie Deer, also known as Aunt Di, Deer, Di, and Granny Deer, to those who knew and loved her most, passed away at the Hosparus Care Facility in Louisville, KY on August 20, 2021 at the age of 73.

Diane was born on May 16, 1948 in Shepherdsville, KY to the late John and Ruby Reading. She married the love of her life, David Deer, on November 8th,1969. Her sweet dough boy as she called him was an Army Staff Sergeant and they spent their 13 years of marriage happily traveling the world as they were stationed in places like Germany, France, Switzerland and Colorado. She loved to travel and her favorite places she visited were Hawaii and Holland. David and Diane never had children of their own but they opened their home as foster parents to children in need. She lovingly doted on all babies and children wherever she went.

Diane gave her heart to Jesus in 1982 and faithfully served the Lord until her death. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church in McQuady, KY.

Her husband’s service in the military instilled in her a love for our Nation’s soldiers and veterans. She was known to stop a soldier in uniform and with a tear in her eye thank them for their sacrifice for our country and would often buy their meals.  She was excellent at needlework including cross stitching, crochet and quilting and lovingly made many beautiful projects for members of her family.

Diane made friends wherever she went but two of those friends, Theresa Bradley and Mitzi Sanders were especially dear to her heart. Mitzi and Theresa were wonderful friends to her and brought so much joy to her life. She made many wonderful memories with them.

Diane became a young widow at the age of 34, after her husband of 13 years passed away in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents John and Ruby Reading and three brothers Sonny, Larry and Johnny Reading.

She is survived by three brothers: Jim (Lois) Reading of Shepherdsville, KY, Danny Reading of Shepherdsville, KY, and Ronald Reading of Jeffersonville, IN.

Two sisters: Patsy Bratcher of Clarksville, IN and Barbara (Mike) Grubbs of West View, KY. whom she lovingly called “Bubby.” There is no one on this side of Heaven that she loved more than her “Bubby” and they shared a bond that cannot be put into words. 

13 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant View Baptist Church in McQuady, KY on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 6:00 PM with Pastor Dale Massengale officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:30-6:00 PM at the church.
